Meadowlark Hills Foundation board member Jackie Hartman arrived at last week’s HOG & Kisses Contest prepared to give Hazel Hog a big smooch. Wearing jeans, a HOGtoberfest T-shirt and lipstick in a deep pink shade, Jackie was walking across the Cox Bros. BBQ parking lot when she encountered a friend who had contributed to her hog kissing campaign. He pulled a small bottle of mouth wash from his pocket, telling Jackie he wanted her to be ready if she should have the opportunity to pucker up.
Q: Has all the moisture we have had during the project affected the concrete project?
Thank you for your questions, I am excited we are nearing the finish of this major project. We are now planning for the curbs and parking spaces to be repainted. This project has created yet another learning opportunity for me. Here is what I have learned from the professionals about how the moisture was managed for this project.
Q: Is it necessary for a resident to contact maintenance for service to have their air conditioning/heat filters and the smoke alarm batteries changed or are they on a schedule?
Rita Harsch received the 2014 “Advocate of the Year” award for her excellence in advocacy leadership with Meadowlark Hillson Oct. 1, 2014.
Rita’s level of expertise with Medicaid and insurance allows her the opportunity to advocate for residents and their families to ensure their benefits. In the confusing world of medical assistance and insurance programs, Rita provides elders and their family’s guidance and support.
Oink! Have you heard the noise about HOGtoberfest? Not only do we have the chance to support the Good Samaritan Fund by eating tasty barbecue at Cox Bros. BBQ on Oct. 16 – a portion of the restaurant’s proceeds will be donated to the Fund – but we also may donate to the Fund by participating in a HOG & Kisses Contest which began Oct. 1.
Q: Several of the Osher Learning Institute programs will be at the Manhattan Arts Center. Will there be a Meadowlark Hills bus trip for residents so they can attend? Also the trip to the zoo through Osher— does it require walking very far?
The K-State Anthropology student who lived at Meadowlark Hills, Jordan Thomas, has embarked on a new journey. Jordan and his companions set out from Atchison, Kanas to South America on a bicycle earlier this summer. The following are portions from his third online blog entry as they continue their journey:

Q: Annie the question came up in Town Meeting about sugar-free and no-sugar-added desserts. What is the difference, why does it matter and how is one to know?
For six years, Buttonwood Art Space in Kansas City, Mo., has supported the Flint Hills area of Kansas and its unique place in our greater regional ecosystem through an annual art benefit. Visions of the Flint Hills Art Benefit and Sale is a juried exhibit featuring art of the Flint Hills. Sweeping paintings of sky and native prairie grass dominate the show, but sculpture pieces, fiber works, fused glass and photos also are featured. The art is on exhibit each October and November, in Buttonwood Art Space.
Q: Annie you mentioned there will be an additional menu, will you explain that further?
I am truly humbled and honored to have the opportunity to be a part of Meadowlark Hills.
