Local not-for-profit focused on supporting people in living their best lives
Gather together as a community to send off two Meadowlark Hills residents as they venture to Washington D.C. as part of the Honor Flight Network.
A reception will take place during Coffee Corner at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, in the Community Room. Following the reception at 3:30 p.m., friends, family and community members will line the street on Meadowlark Road as the Legion Riders escort our honorees out of town.
John Lindholm and Ed Call, both World War II veterans, were selected to be part of the Honor Flight.
Summer, here we come! Enjoy the summer sun on the patio Friday, June 7, during the annual Summerfest Block Party!
The event will kick-off at 4:45 p.m. The cookout will begin at 5 p.m. and the live band, The Tom Cats, will perform at 6 p.m. They will make their début performance at the 2013 Summerfest!
Q: Annie, you were out of the office the last week for a few days, what were you up to?
A: Thank you for noticing. I was invited to speak at a leadership conference in California, over the leadership program I have been co-writing.
The Great Flood of ‘51
Photographs, news reports and eye witness accounts document the great Kansas River Flood of 1951. The Osher course, The Great Flood of ’51, from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays, June 5, 12 and 19, in the Community Room will examine floods of Kansas’ past and explore the likelihood of another great flood. This Osher class is free to Meadowlark Hills residents and you can register by calling (877) 404-5823. Registration is required.
Summer Fun with Cocktails
I’ve been asked by many of you “when will the office moves start happening?” Well the time is now! For those who haven’t noticed my recent exodus from the office in the south hallway, I have moved to the CEO office in the west hall of the Community Center. This is the beginning of several office moves and the intention is to make this a long-term destination for all involved.
Meadowlark Hills offers guest suites for residents, staff and their family members to use. The Guest Suite that use to be located at 2003 Meadowlark Road, apartment 1 has been relocated to apartment 224 in the main building. The new location still offers the same conveniences of the pervious suite. Please inform any family members or other patrons of the change.
Don’t miss your chance to see the poppy display in the main lobby! Poppies will be on display until after Memorial Day. To honor a veteran, you may purchase a potted poppy for $10 at the Hospitality Desk. The name of your honored loved one will be displayed with the poppy. The amount can be paid by cash, check or added to your monthly statement. The proceeds will benefit the Meadowlark Hills Veterans Group. Your poppy may be picked up after Memorial Day, May 27, until Wednesday, May 29.
Burke and Margery Bayer, and Barbara Wilson received the Manhattan Legacy Award on Monday, May 20, at the Meadowlark Hills Legacy Banquet.
As the dust begins to settle, inevitable decisions and transitions are beginning to take shape. I participated in a learning circle with staff members on Wednesday, May 8, to discuss the changes. First off, my previous position, Chief Operating Officer (COO), will not be filled. I am happy to say that by removing the COO position, a layer will be eliminated from the organizational structure. The COO responsibilities will be distributed among three of our current staff members: Garrett Lee, Annie Peace and Sarah Guge.
The late Virginia Honstead is described as an extreme extrovert and her contributions to her Meadowlark Hills community are immeasurable.
Virginia and her late husband’s financial generosity made the creation of the Honstead Household possible. She valued the opportunity for a place of worship and helped provide this to her community by facilitating the Sunday evening Vesper schedule and playing the piano during church services in Wroten.
