You may have seen a few new faces around Meadowlark Hills this month, especially in the lobby at the Hospitality Desk! The Hospitality Team, which includes Tom Atwood, Liz Birk and Lynette Ford, has doubled in size. The team has welcomed three new members: Jessica Hudson, Kaila Trombley and Mary Harness. The new employees are part of the transformation the Hospitality Team has seen over the past few months.
The monthly column, featuring a member of the Meadowlark Hills Medical Professionals for September introduces Jennifer Ellifritt.
Jennifer Ellifritt APRN-C is a certified advanced practice registered nurse (nurse practitioner). Jennifer works together with Dr. Mathew Floersch, MD as a joint health care team at Meadowlark Hills Medical Professionals.
Q: I’ve noticed a reserved parking place in the employee parking lot marked Leader of the Pack. What is the Leader of the Pack?
Q: Lonnie mentioned at Town Meeting that Meadowlark Hills is a PEAK Mentor Home. What does that mean?
A: Another great question that I am proud to answer because it means Meadowlark Hills continues to be leading organization. PEAK stands for Providing Excellent Alternatives for Kansas Nursing Homes. It is a program administered by the Kansas Department of Aging and Disability Services, originally created ten years ago. Meadowlark Hills has won the PEAK award several times, including most recently in 2012.
The Speedy PD 5K/10K Race for Parkinson’s Disease was held at Tuttle Creek State Park in Manhattan, Kan., on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013. The 5K Run/10K Run/Walk and Half-Mile Family Fun Run/Walk was presented by UMB Bank and proceeds benefit the Meadowlark Hills Parkinson Fund.
Meadowlark Hills will host a community-wide wellness fair from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, in the Community Center. Businesses and service providers from the area will gather to educate and raise awareness about healthy aging, available resources and opportunities for involvement in healthy lifestyle choices.
The 2013 Community Wellness Fair is open to Meadowlark Hills residents and staff, as well as the Manhattan community. Attendees are welcome to stop by the fair anytime between 1 and 4 p.m.
Q: What is the difference between a DNR and a Living Will?
A: I guess it was time for a tough question this week!
A Living Will and a Do Not Resuscitate or DNR are both considered Advance Directives. Advance Directives are documents that provide important information on a person’s wishes in medical emergencies. These help emergency responders, nurses, physicians and other healthcare professionals know, ahead of time, if a person does not wish to receive lifesaving or life prolonging procedures.
In New York, the administrative offices of Robert College (Istanbul) announced that a scholarship had been endowed to honor Dorothy I. Deihl, a resident of Meadowlark Hills, with her husband Lincoln, from January 2007 until her passing on Christmas night 2010.
Local continuing-care retirement community, Meadowlark Hills, recognized for giving back
The Parkinson’s Program of Manhattan at Meadowlark Hills receives the 2013 “Excellence in Social Accountability” award for providing high-quality services to elders with Parkinson’s disease and education to the broader community.
Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community received the PEAK Award on Thursday, Aug. 22, during a presentation ceremony in the MeadowlarkHillsCommunity Center.
The award was presented to Lonnie Baker, CEO at Meadowlark Hills, by the Secretary for Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services (KDADS), Shawn Sullivan.
