Notice of Recycling Changes: Recycling Changes to be in Effect Soon!

By Annie Peace on November 21, 2013

As I mentioned at November Town Meeting we will have some upcoming changes in our recycling service. For the last 10 years, Meadowlark Hills has been able to offer recycling services at no additional charge due to the effort of a wonderful volunteer. Kim Ensley, a long-term employee has volunteered to provide recycling services that included curbside pickup for a number of years. Now, after many years of service, Kim will be shifting her focus a bit. She will continue to provide recycling services for Miller Place and Tinklin Pointe, where she currently works. Additionally, Kim will be increasing her role as a grandmother, as she is expecting her second grandchild. We thank Kim for her commitment to starting and maintaining this service. She is a tremendous example of a volunteer.

To replace Kim’s efforts we will be engaging a recycling service. Yes, it will take a whole team to replace what she has done single handedly. We are contracting with Howie’s Trash Service to continue to provide recycling. The current recycling containers behind the south elevators will be replaced with Howie’s containers. A recycling dumpster will be placed next to the current dumpster in the northeast parking lot near the Assisted Living entrance. The addition of this dumpster will not impact any parking spaces; it will fit in with the current dumpster. This dumpster will be available for anyone on campus to utilize.

For those of you that are currently receiving curbside pickup you will have the option to take your items to the dumpster, bring them in to the bins in the Community Center or you can contact Howie’s at (785) 776-8352 and arrange curb-side pick-up through them. They are offering a discounted rate for Meadowlark Hills’ residents. Be sure to mention that you are a resident at Meadowlark Hills. Kim’s last collection day will be Saturday, Nov. 30, and Howies will begin our service on Friday, Nov. 29, to ensure a seamless transition. If you have questions regarding this change, you can contact Annie Peace at 532-9239 or Amanda Rall at 323-3801.
