MH² Challenge Update

By Jeff Heidbreder on April 9, 2015

Week One is under our belts, and the challenge is shaping up to be a good competition! Continue filling out ALL physical activity on your tracking sheets, and remember to turn in Week Two by 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 14. Sheets can be turned in at the Hospitality Desk, Human Resources office, or Caul Fitness Center. Today, April 19, will be the first prize drawing for successful participants in the healthy eating challenge. Each Thursday we will hold our drawing for participants who successfully achieve the previous week’s healthy eating goal. Winners will be contacted and given their prize after the drawing is held. This week’s quiz questions are available in the Game Room— be sure to grab an answer slip for each question, and place the completed forms in the drop box at the Hospitality Desk. Keep moving!

Next week’s events include the Group Walks and a Nutrition Seminar over “Sodium.” The Group Walks will be at 1 p.m. Monday, April 13, and Wednesday, April 15. Meet at the Village Entrance to start. The Nutrition Seminar, “Sodium” will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, in the KSU Classroom. Quiz Questions will be posted in the Game Room Monday, April 13. Please place completed slips in the drop box located at the Hospitality Desk by Friday, April 17.

Last weeks Quiz Answers:

1.) 150 minutes of physical activity can help maintain, or improve health?

Answer is true. According to the American College of Sports Medicine, the overall recommendation for most adults is to engage in at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise each week. This is the reason our challenge is to be active 30 minutes (or more) on at least 5 days per week.

2.) Does 3,500 calories equal 1 pound of body weight?

Answer is true. 3,500 calories equals roughly 1 pound of fat. When simply looking at weight loss, a 500 calorie deficit per –day would equal 1 pound of weight lost.  A calorie deficit equals burning more calories through exercise, or eating less than we consume during the day. The body is a little more complicated than that, but this is a very basic start to looking at weight loss!
