April is Parkinson’s Disease Awareness Month. The Parkinson’s Program of Manhattan at Meadowlark Hills has been extremely busy planning fundraisers and educational workshops to raise awareness about Parkinson’s Disease.

Between 2007 and 2010, the Kansas Sampler Foundation sponsored contests to determine the top 8 Wonders of Kansas. More than 100,000 people voted to determine winners and finalists in the categories of Architecture, Art, Commerce, Cuisine, Customs, Geography, History, People, and overall. 

Residents and Passport members are invited to join Amanda Rall and Becky Fitzgerald for a trip to Lucas, Kan., for tours of the 4th Wonder in the Art category: the Garden of Eden and the Grassroots Art Center. This artsy adventure is set for Thursday, May 16.

The Kahler family invites you to join them on Sunday, April 14, in the Community Room to celebrate Betty and Shorty’s 70th anniversary. Their three daughters will present a short concert to celebrate a lifetime of songs. Due to space restrictions, there will be two concerts that guests may choose from to attend, one at 2 p.m. and the second at 3:30 p.m. Cake and punch will be served in the foyer and there will be extra seating in the Game Room.

The semi-annual Rasmussen 8-ball Tournament will commence in April. If you are interested, a sign-up sheet may be found in the Billiards Parlor. Tournament play will begin Monday, April 15, and conclude Tuesday, April 30. If you have any questions, contact Tracy Musselman at 323-3878.

In response to the recent questions that have emerged in the Ask Annie! column of the Messenger, the Sales Team will be hosting an open forum for all residents to attend and have their questions answered regarding Healthcare and Transitional Care sales and rates, Adult Day Services, Independent Living rental fees and courtesy days. They will also be happy to answer other questions you have pertaining to sales at Meadowlark Hills!

Tai Chi classes will resume at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, in the Community Room. Classes will be held at 1 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday from Tuesday, April 2,  to Tuesday, July 2. Tai Chi instructor, Laurie Pieper, would like to keep class sizes to 12 participants, to ensure ample space and safety. Sign up now in the Blue Book, located at the Hospitality Desk. Participants new to Tai Chi are encouraged to attend on a regular basis, as the class will build from one class to the next. There will be no additional fee for residents and passport members.

Therapy Services will host two health fairs in April for Assisted Living and Independent Living residents and families. The first opportunity will start at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, in the Tinklin Pointe Dining Room. The second starts at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 11, in the Community Center Game Room.
