I had always heard Meadowlark Hills is for older adults, but when I moved in, I found out Meadowlark Hills keeps us young.

Local not-for-profit focused on supporting people in living their best lives
On Sunday, June 1, Vespers will resume at Meadowlark Hills in the Community Room. Services will begin at 7 p.m. and last for approximately 30 minutes. We appreciate the work of the Vespers Steering Committee consisting of Meadowlark Hills residents with staff support from Chaplain Patty Brown-Barnett. Watch for additional details in the next edition of the Meadowlark Hills Messenger.
Remember, if you move or change your name, you must re-register to vote! It is still very important that we let our voices be heard by voting. This year is a very important voting year. Meadowlark Hills is no longer a voting site. Although there will be shuttles to the fire station located at Denison Ave. and Kimball Ave. on voting day – there is another way to consider—registering for a permanent advance ballot. Our County Clerk’s Office tells us:
Dr. Bill Thomas is an author, entrepreneur, musician, teacher, farmer and physician whose wide-ranging work explores the terrain of human aging. Best known for his health care system innovations, he is the founder of a global non-profit called the Eden Alternative, which works to improve the care provided to older people.
On Saturday, June 7, the memory-support Households will be walking in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s to help raise money for the fight against Alzheimer’s disease. On Tuesday, May 6, and Wednesday, May 21, employees are welcome to wear jeans to work with a minimum donation of $1. The money received through these Jeans Days, along with the proceeds from the Walk are used to support Alzheimer care, support and research. For more information about the Walk, please visit www.alz.org/walk or contact one of the memory-support Households.
Q: Can you tell us about the ice sculptures we have been seeing more and more of at events?
The ice sculptures at our events are actually done here, in house by Chef John Gasser. John came to Meadowlark Hills a couple years ago and has truly made a huge impact on our Food and Beverage team with his amazing abilities to organize events, teach and mentor staff, prepare delicious food, and most recently, sculpt some pretty incredible things out of ice.
Q: What vaccinations do I need and how often should I get them?
submitted by Jennifer Ellifritt, APRN
The flu vaccine should be received yearly. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends it be received by October as it can take up to two weeks for the antibodies to develop to protect you from getting the flu. The peak flu season is typically in January so this will give your body plenty of time to prepare.
Ruth Wells, Meadowlark Hills resident, has once again defied the stereotype of growing older by signing up to parachute from a plane on Friday, April 25.
Ruth has always been known for her adventurous spirit. After graduating from Central Missouri University, she joined the U.S. Marine Corps Women’s Reserve to serve the United States of America during World War II.
Q: What is the progress on the Development Director position and will we be able to meet the candidates?
This is an excellent question as our search for the Development Director is getting ready to enter into its final stages!
