Earth Day, April 22, 2016, is a great day for the Manhattan, Kansas community when the 4th Annual Grow Green Match Day will take place. On that day, donations made through the Greater Manhattan Community Foundation to participating nonprofit agencies will receive a 50% match that can be used for their most crucial needs.
Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, “A Grand Night of Singing” at Quality Hill Playhouse and lunch/shopping at Webster House. Kansas City, Mo., has much to entice visitors, so plan now to join Monte Spiller and Becky Fitzgerald when we travel in May to the City of Fountains. A three-day, two-night adventure is planned for Tuesday, May 10 through Thursday, May 12, and speaking of water features, a guided tour of some of the city’s fountains is on our itinerary, too!

The top of the short wall in front of Magye Loya’s desk has some additional bling this week. “In the Key of Christmas,” a decorated tree entered in the annual Festival of Trees competition, won two awards at a gala on Friday, Nov. 20, at Houston Street Ballroom. The tree, designed and decorated by Meadowlark Hills employees Kristin Bribiesca, Becky Fitzgerald, Mary Harness, Magye Loya and Kinzie Jo Zimmerman, earned the Festival Favorite and People’s Choice awards.

During the finale of the HOG & Kisses Contest, Helga’s squeals and grunts grew louder with each candidate I introduced, hogging the spotlight with her oinking and pretty, pink nose.
Happy, the HOGtoberfest mascot, was busy last week, attending meetings with me and visiting participants in this year’s HOG & Kisses Contest. She did all she could to encourage the candidates to continue to raise support and awareness for Meadowlark Hills Foundation’s Good Samaritan Fund, leading up to HOGtoberfest on Thursday, Oct. 29, at Cox Bros. BBQ, 223 McCall Road.
