Question: I have seen and heard figures pertaining to the percentage of Meadowlark Hills residents who have exhausted their assets and are in need of Good Samaritan help as being approximately 32%. Could you provide information about how this percentage is related to Independent Living, Assisted Living, Health Care etc.?

Answer: That percentage is only referring to charitable care in Healthcare Households. Thirty-two percent of our funding for theHouseholds is paid through the state Medicaid program. The funding from this program is about 25% less funding than we receive through our private pay rate, explaining the need for the Good Samaritan Fund and the value it brings.

These figures I have provided thus far do not include the consideration of additional needs and costs. To further
understand the overall picture, I think it is helpful to know that last year we provided $715,000 in charitable care and we received $94,000 in donations to the Good Samaritan Fund. From July through December of this fiscal year, we have incurred $424,000 in charitable care expense and have received $109,000 in donations. Thank you for asking this question as it is helpful for me to look clearly at these numbers and see the gap. I hope this answer is helpful and
covers all you were seeking for an answer. It clarifies for me the value of the Good Samaritan Fund!
