The fortune-teller who sat in a quiet corner of the Manhattan Room couldn’t have said it better. Inviting attendees to trade a ticket for words of wisdom and a gaze into her crystal ball, resident Sue Hunt channeled her inner prognosticator during last Friday’s Paving the Way Carnival. What did she predict? Happy trails for everyone!
Grow Green Match Day on Friday, April 22, is an incredible opportunity to make a positive impact in our community in general, and among our Meadowlark family, specifically. Just ask Julie Fowler, Jessica Pagan, and Auja Saunders.These three Meadowlark employees were recently awarded nursing scholarships thanks to the generosity of Meadowlark’s Grow Green donors in 2021. This annual day of giving to benefit local not-for-profit organizations is sponsored by Greater Manhattan Community Foundation.
Pig Out for Parkinson’s will celebrate its 12th anniversary on Thursday, April 28. Since year one, the goal of this event is to educate the Manhattan and surrounding communities about Parkinson’s disease (Pd) and the free services the Meadowlark Parkinson’s Program offers. Over the years, we have been able to increase the outreach opportunities we provide because of events such as Pig Out for Parkinson’s. We have learned that engagement is a big factor in quality of life, functional abilities, and living well with Parkinson’s.
MANHATTAN, KAN. – Meadowlark has proudly announced the 2022 Nursing Scholarship recipients: Julie Fowler, Jessica Pagan, and Auja Saunders.
Now in its fourth year, Meadowlark’s scholarship program rewards the initiative of talented current employees, while, in the future, providing Meadowlark’s licensed care households with highly trained staff in a perpetual nurse shortage. Employees who receive a scholarship agree to work at Meadowlark for at least two years following graduation.
Saturday, 19 March, the day before the first day of spring, seemed a good time to check the progress on campus of Spring emerging from Winter—and to see how may signs of Spring were about. I was not disappointed. For starters, I enjoyed two butterflies and one small spider. No dragon flies yet.
After a two-year hiatus, the Memory Matters Symposium returned Tuesday, March 29. Attendance nearly doubled projections, with approximately 100 people coming to learn in-person or via Zoom. Participants enjoyed a delicious spread of brain-healthy Mediterranean-style food prepared by Prairie Star Restaurant. Dr. Matt Floersch and Heather Sloan, APRN, from CenterPointe Physicians provided opening and closing remarks respectively. Both spoke about the value of the Meadowlark Memory Program for individuals and families affected by dementia. Dr.
Meadowlark hosted a ground-breaking event Wednesday, March 16, for a new 24-unit independent living apartment building located on the main campus. The new building, The Monarch, will be located on the southeast corner of Meadowlark Road and Meadowlark Circle.
Prompted by a pledge of matching/challenge funds, Meadowlark Foundation announces the “Paving the Way” campaign. Jan Fink Call and Jeff Call, and Dan Fink, have pledged to match, dollar for dollar, up to $40,000 in memory of the late Rev. H. Wayne Fink, to pave a portion of the loop trail which circles Meadowlark’s campus.
The words “grow” and “green” are perfectly suited for Earth Day, which is next Thursday, April 22, so it’s fitting that the 9th annual Grow Green Match Day was purposely planned to coincide with a day designed to increase environmental awareness. On Match Day, “green” donations made through the Greater Manhattan Community Foundation to participating non-profit agencies will “grow” with a 50 percent match.
Effective Friday, March 19, 2021, Meadowlark will officially re-open its Kimball Avenue entrance and suspend usage of the check-point station located on Tuttle Creek Boulevard. Visitors without symptoms of illness, a current or suspected COVID-19 diagnosis, or contact with someone who has a positive COVID-19 test or is under investigation, will be permitted to enter campus. This will include common, public areas in Meadowlark’s Community Center such as Prairie Star Restaurant and the Courtyard.
