The Vietnam War

Tuesday, September 29, 2015 - 6:30pm to 8:30pm

Location: Community Room

This Osher class examines the Vietnam conflict, as one of the longest and most divisive wars in American history. Today, fifty years later, Americans are still living with its legacy.

The first class, Tuesday, Sept. 29, considers the French involvement in the aftermath of WWII, the rise of Vietnamese nationalism and communist influence, and America’s initial involvement. The second and third class, Tuesday, Oct. 6, and Tuesday, Oct. 13, will dive into America’s military commitment, major military operations, and the Tet Offensive.

Join Robert Smith, Director of the Fort Riley Museum with a doctorate in history from Kansas State University, as he examines the social and political unrest in the U.S. that contributed to America’s gradual withdrawal from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Community Room at Meadowlark Hills.
