Skydiving at Age Ninety-three: Ruth Wells to Skydive with Gerontology Club

on April 16, 2014

Ruth Wells, Meadowlark Hills resident, has once again defied the stereotype of growing older by signing up to parachute from a plane on Friday, April 25.

Ruth has always been known for her adventurous spirit. After graduating from Central Missouri University, she joined the U.S. Marine Corps Women’s Reserve to serve the United States of America during World War II.

Ruth is also a world traveler. On her 90th birthday in January 2011, Ruth traveled to Peru and hiked the Amazon Rain Forest. She’s also traveled with the Meadowlark Hills Travelers on the Colorado Mountain Majesty tour and most recently to Branson, MO!

Ruth, now age 93, will skydive with her Gerontology Class mentee, Paige McMahon. Ruth has been an excellent example for her mentee of how to never stop living, even as we age. “Ruth inspires me to live every day to the fullest and try new things even in situations that make us face our fears,” Paige said.

You’re invited to come support Ruth as she free falls from 40,000 feet at 9 a.m. Friday, April 25, at the Abilene airport. The van will depart at 8 a.m. from the Village Entrance. Please arrive prior to the departure so we don’t miss Ruth’s jump. The cost of transportation will be $8.25. To register, sign up in the Blue Book located at the Hospitality Desk.
