Mama & Daddy Gettin’ Outta Dodge!

Questions have slowed down lately in the Ask Sarah box – remember to submit your ponderings at the Hospitality Desk (or stop by my office, send a text, leave a voicemail or shoot over an e-mail) and I will find the answers, or lose my breath trying!

Outdoor Encounters

Submitted by Nathan Bolls

Because our typical lifestyle gradually has become more urban and more—and—more indoors, people have increasingly lost that sense of what to fear “in the wild.”

For our purposes, two or three easy rules will most always suffice. I know that my chances of being molested by deer, coyote, raccoon, skunk, opossum or leprechaun; by soaring bald eagle, gliding turkey vulture, or flapping heron; or of having a bat fly down and get tangled up in my hair (no snickers, please) are somewhere down there with winning the lottery.

The event is open to all interested participants with the purpose of raising funds for the Parkinson’s Program of Manhattan at Meadowlark Hills. Team Meadowlark Hills hopes to create the largest team to participate in this year’s event.

Meadowlark Hills Market, an annual sale of household items, has been reinvented this year. An auction is taking its place!

Please mark your calendars for 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, at Cico Park’s Pottorf Hall. Proceeds benefit the Meadowlark Hills Foundation’s Good Samaritan Fund, which assists residents in Meadowlark Hills healthcare households who have outlived their financial resources. Vern Gannon of Gannon Auctions is donating his time and that of his staff members so that more auction revenue will go toward the fund.

This past March, Nathan Bolls alerted me to an opportunity to further feed my interest in everything nature. The Manhattan Zoo was about to conduct training on how to identify the frogs and toads of Riley County. Once trained and tested, participants could qualify new observation sites and submit observation data, all to contribute to the Frog Watch Program.

There's No Place Like Home

The Duggans have returned home after spending a couple weeks with our family in New York. What a fun-filled family vacation! Murphy really enjoyed all the sights and sounds of the city, and man was she spoiled by her NYC family.

What are the top five greatest things about returning home from an awesome trip away?

#5: Sleeping in your own bed! There is nothing like sleeping in your bed, on your sheets in your house. Ahhh…
