We have passed the halfway point of the challenge! I must say it has gone fast, but has been a lot of fun so far. Continue tracking physical activity on your Week Five sheets, which will be due to the Hospitality Desk, Human Resources office, or Caul Fitness Center by Tuesday, May 5, at 5 p.m. Looking forward to the Week Eight healthy eating challenge, which is to stay within your calorie limits for the day.
As a young child, K-State student and Meadowlark Hills companion, Julia Chestnut had always dreamt of working alongside the famous “Crocodile Hunter,” Steve Irwin. When Julia first laid her eyes on Steve Irwin’s television show, she was taken away. “The way he was absolutely passionate about the animals was completely eye opening and inspiring.” The messages Irwin shared with the world sparked an interest in Julia—realizing she wanted to take her career towards the same path Irwin did.
Meadowlark Hills’ Home Health companions are driving clients in safety and comfort thanks to a recent gift from Meadowlark Hills resident Robin Higham. His 1999 Oldsmobile 88 was recently added to our community’s fleet of vehicles and has become one of three cars assigned to Home Health.
“We call it Red Robin because it’s red and it was donated by Robin Higham,” said Kelly Miller, Home Health Leader, of the four-door sedan. “People who ride in it tell us it’s very comfy. It has added to our flexibility and independence to meet the needs of our clients on their time schedule.”
Week Four, the halfway point of the challenge, is upon us! Teams have been working hard, so be sure to keep it up as the finish line will be here before we know it. Continue tracking your physical activity on your Week Four tracking sheet and turn them into the Hospitality Desk, Human Resources, or the Caul Fitness Center by 5 p.m. next Tuesday, April, 28. Congratulations to Rae Stamey for being the prize winner of the Week Two healthy eating challenge. Rae won a $25 gift certificate to the Eastside/Westside Market.
The MLH Travelers are set to embark on the Land of Lincoln and the Mighty Mississippi trip from August 23 through August 28. If you would like to sign up for this trip, pick up a registration form from the Hospitality Desk. Completed registration forms are due to Monte by Friday, June 5.
K-State’s McCain Auditorium has had a long association with Meadowlark Hills, and Friends of McCain would like to recognize residents and the organization for your patronage and sponsorship of the annual Performance Series. To say “thank you,” a Happy Hour (and a half) is planned for residents prior to the last show of the 2014-15 season, “Michael Feinstein: The Sinatra Project”. Please join Todd Holmberg, McCain Auditorium director, other McCain staff and Friends of McCain board members, including Becky Fitzgerald, from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
2015 marks the 10th anniversary of Symphony in the Flint Hills, and Meadowlark Hills again has secured a block of reserved seats, which are near the stage. This year’s event is set for Saturday, June 13, at the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve in Chase County, which was the location when the event debuted in 2006. Performing with the Kansas City Symphony in honor of this milestone year is special guest artist Lyle Lovett, a four-time Grammy award winner.
Week Three of the challenge is here and the teams are competing hard, so keep it up! All participants should be tracking their activity on the Week Three sheet, due by next Tuesday, April 28. Turn the tracking sheets in to the Hospitality Desk, Human Resources office, or Caul Fitness Center by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21.
Meadowlark Hills Foundation has enthusiastically accepted an invitation to grow our “green” by participating in the 3rd annual Grow Green Match Day on Wednesday, April 22. This event holds incredible opportunity for Meadowlark Hills Foundation. On that day, the Greater Manhattan Community Foundation will match donations made to an endowment fund we have with GMCF — our long-term savings — and we could potentially receive more than a $10,000 match.
