2015 marks the 10th anniversary of Symphony in the Flint Hills, and Meadowlark Hills again has secured a block of reserved seats, which are near the stage. This year’s event is set for Saturday, June 13, at the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve in Chase County, which was the location when the event debuted in 2006. Performing with the Kansas City Symphony in honor of this milestone year is special guest artist Lyle Lovett, a four-time Grammy award winner.
Q: We had a day that our trash did not get picked up?
I spoke with Mike Davis, our Environmental Services Leader, and he assures me this was a random occurrence. He has spoken to our trash providers and the situation remedied. Our Environmental Services team picked up the trash in the meantime on the missed day. Regular trash pick-ups are every Monday morning, and you are encouraged to place your trash on the curbs the night before. Thanks for another great question and please keep them coming.
Meadowlark Hills hosted its second-ever Culture Story Contest this year. The purpose of this contest was to gather residents, family, staff and stakeholder’s stories that speak to the uniqueness of Meadowlark Hills and how person-directed care has changed their thoughts on what it means to age. The winners of the two categories were announced at the March Town Meeting.

Q: We have a male cardinal who keeps flying off a bush next to the house and bumping up against a nearby window. The question is why is he doing that? Is he trying to attract a mate or just showing off? Or, seeing his own reflection in the glass? He goes through this routine for at least 15 minutes twice a day.
Are you ready to test how healthy your lifestyle is? Would you like to win prizes for being active and eating healthy? If you answered yes to either (or both) of those questions, the upcoming MH² Challenge is for you!
Residents and Passport members are invited to come on a day trip to Hutchinson, Kan., for a tour of the Strataca Kansas Underground Salt Museum and lunch at Jillian’s Italian Grill. This exciting trip is set for Tuesday, March 10.
Transportation will depart for Hutchinson at 8 a.m. from the Village Entrance. After arriving, we will take a self-guided walking tour and then hop on the handicap-accessible tram Dark Ride.
