Q: How do the libraries in the Community Center work and who maintains them?

The library by the Living Room is maintained by the Library Committee whose members include Bea Rasmussen, Linda Ruhnke and Ruth Wells and supported by Turley Hays. Residents may check out books, audiobooks and DVDs by writing the title and date out on their library card. When returning an item, write the date that item is returned on the card noting that it has been returned. Returned books can be placed in the green basket by the fireplace and the Library Committee will restock your book. There are extra blank library cards in the front of the card catalog box for new residents or those who do not have cards. Library cards are stored alphabetically and residents may check out more than one book at a time with no due date, however the committee asks that the books be returned at some point. There is also a basket of paperback books that residents are able to barrow without checking out. Those are rotated out periodically. Residents may submit item requests to the Library Committee. The library is funded by donations. If you would like to donate to the library, please contact the finance office. Bea Rasmussen is happy to answer any questions and she can be reached at 537-8775.

The Resource Library, located in the KSU Classroom, was developed for a student project. This library is monitored by staff and volunteers to help keep it organized. Recently, a volunteer, Jamie Long, dedicated time to spruce up the library and label the categories. The categories include media, magazine, aging, medical, business and miscellaneous. All material in this library has a pocket with a checkout card slipped inside. Please remove the card, place your name and checkout date on it and deposit this card in the black box (labeled Checked Out Resources) until you are able to return the material. When returning the material, find the checkout card in the black box and replace the book in the category it was found at.

Thank you for the great question, keep them coming!
