Q: How can I obtain prescription refills on my medications?

submitted by the Meadowlark Hills Medical Professionals

The Physician Office receives a significant number of medication refill requests every day through phone calls from patients, faxes from pharmacies and electronic requests from pharmacies and our goal is to be efficient and accurate with every prescription refill request received. The most efficient and accurate refill process is to have you call your pharmacy directly and request a refill several days before your prescription will run out. If you are using a mail order pharmacy requesting your refill through the mail order pharmacy at least two weeks ahead of time.

Our office uses electronic prescribing (e-prescribing); we send new and refill prescriptions to your pharmacy through the computer. E-prescribing supports a more efficient, accurate and safer method of prescribing. When you call your pharmacy and request a refill, the pharmacy will send us the request through the computer directly into your chart. Once the refill request is received, it is then approved by the physician or nurse practitioner and returned to the pharmacy electronically through the computer.

There may be times you will be contacted by our office to make an appointment for labs or an appointment with one of the providers before a refill can be approved as some medications require close monitoring. Making the refill request well ahead of when you will run out ensures there will be no lapse in treatment.
