Q: How do Courtesy Days accumulate and what fees should I expect when using them?

A: Another great question! Any Independent Living resident who signs a “Life Use Fee” contract qualifies for Courtesy Days. However, individuals who are renting do not qualify for Courtesy Days. There are no costs for accumulating Courtesy Days. It is a benefit of signing the Life Use Fee contract. Each month that a person with a Life Use Fee contract lives in Independent Living they accumulate one Courtesy Day. If it is a couple, each person accumulates their own days. The maximum number of days a person can accumulate is 12. If you need to go to healthcare for a temporary or permanent stay, the Courtesy Days can be used to help cover the cost of that stay. For example, if a person has accumulated 10 days, when they go to healthcare, their room and board costs will be partially covered for the first 10 days. I say partially because the Courtesy Day only covers the lowest-level of care rate. The resident will be responsible to pay the difference between their actual rate and the Level One rate. The current level 1 rate is $211 so if someone were to be a level 3, which is $240, they would pay the $29 per day difference. Please keep the questions coming.
