Residents and Passport members are invited to join the day trip adventure to Topeka, Kan., in celebration of Kansas Day. The trip will include lunch at Red Robin Restaurant and a tour of the Kansas Museum of History. The excursion is set for Kansas Day, Thursday, Jan. 29.

Transportation will depart for Topeka at 10:30 a.m. from the Village Entrance. Upon arriving, we will enjoy lunch at Red Robin Restaurant, famous for their gourmet burgers and bottomless fries.

Happy New Year! Meadowlark Hills is kicking off 2015 with the second-ever Culture Story Contest beginning on Jan. 5. The purpose of this contest is to gather resident, family, staff and stakeholder’s stories that speak to the uniqueness of Meadowlark Hills and how person-directed care has changed their thoughts on what it means to age.

Q: What happened to Sunday Brunch? Are we going to have one anytime soon? 

Thank you for a perfect question. We will have three coming up in the very near future, one on Feb. 8,a pre-Valentine’s Day brunch, one the March 15, as we march back in toward spring, and then one on April 5, for Easter Sunday. Thanks again for a great question and please keep them coming!

Congratulations to Meadowlark Hills for its Festival of Trees entry! Not only did our tree win the “Best of Show” award, it also received the “Social Media” award. The Meadowlark Hills tree was very popular in this year’s show.

Q: Tell us again how to recycle as in what numbers on plastic we can consider recycling. And, where do we put it and how it must be bagged if that is necessary. Who picks it up and when? And, what if it can’t be recycled?

Q: How long should we keep items of importance, i.e. Income tax returns, bank statements, credit card receipts, and what should we shred?  Also, how do we decommission a computer before getting rid of it?

What a great question for this time of year as tax season approaches! Each of us probably has a stack of documents we are gathering in preparation of filing our taxes, and some of us may even have years’ worth of previous filed tax returns lurking in our filing cabinets. So, how long should we maintain these documents?
