Chris Nelson, Finance Director

Chris Nelson serves as the Financial Services Director at Meadowlark, providing astute leadership to the Financial Services Team, Human Resources Team, and Information Services Team.

Within the Finance Team, Chris spearheads the compilation of monthly financial statements, the development and maintenance of reporting tools, and the management of accounts payable and billing systems. His role also encompasses the development and monitoring of budget adherence and the oversight of payroll processes. Chris brings a meticulous approach to financial management, ensuring the fiscal health and integrity of Meadowlark.

As the leader of the Human Resources Team, Chris is responsible for a broad spectrum of functions, including employee satisfaction, recruitment, hiring processes, performance management, compliance, risk management, organizational development, employee relations, and OSHA compliance. His comprehensive understanding of human resources contributes to a positive work environment and ensures Meadowlark attracts, develops, and retains top talent.

Chris joined the Meadowlark team in January 2008 as a staff accountant, bringing a strong educational background to his role. He holds a bachelor's degree in secondary education with an emphasis in business and a bachelor's degree in accounting, both earned in the spring of 2004 from Kansas State University. In 2006, he furthered his education by obtaining a master's degree in counseling and student development, showcasing his commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.

Actively engaged in the community, Chris attends the Manhattan Church of Christ, where he serves as the Deacon of Finance. Beyond his professional contributions, he finds joy in family life, residing in Manhattan with his wife, Krystal, and their daughters, Carlie and Piper.

Chris's passion for Meadowlark extends beyond the numbers and spreadsheets. Reflecting on his favorite room within the community, he highlights Prairie Star for its inviting atmosphere, providing the perfect setting to connect with residents, families, and fellow team members. Chris's commitment to creating a positive and enjoyable workplace is evident in his appreciation for the meaningful interactions that make each day special.

Outside of Meadowlark, Chris's heart belongs to the K-State football stadium and Bramlage Coliseum. As a lifelong K-State fan, these venues hold a special place in his heart, representing not only his love for the Wildcats but also serving as the backdrop to countless cherished memories with family and friends.

In Chris's own words, "A lot of my best memories with family and friends are in these places," capturing the essence of his deep connection to both Meadowlark and his alma mater.
