Meadowlark is alive. That was obvious from the moment we walked in the door.

AH, AH, AH-CHOOO!
Get ready, world – flu season is upon us and it’s time to remind ourselves what to look for and how to take extra care of ourselves to avoid getting sick. Most, if not all of us, have had our flu shot already. If you haven’t, I encourage you to contact your primary care physician about receiving the vaccine.
I am Thankful
I am thankful for my family. I am thankful for my faith. I am thankful that my husband and I are able to work. I am thankful I have a job that I love. I am thankful my daughter plays hard. I am thankful I have people in my life I can count on. I am thankful I have a home, food and clothing. I am thankful that someone invented whipped cream to top off my pumpkin pie. I am thankful for my dogs. I am thankful that we are not all the same. I am thankful to be here. I am thankful to have the opportunity to be thankful.
Now Showing: Christmas in the Movies!
It’s time to get signed up for the 2015 Christmas Carousel, a holiday party for independent living residents and Passport members! This year’s theme is Christmas in the Movies and during the evening of Wednesday, Dec. 16, you’ll be diving into five well-known Christmas movies located in rooms throughout the Community Center:
The Doctor (and the Nurse Practitioner!) is in!
Land of the Free & Home of the Brave
As the weather and the seasons change, I (and many others!) begin to look forward to upcoming holidays like Halloween (candy and costumes!), Thanksgiving (turkey and football!) and Christmas (carols and egg nog!) but let’s not forget in midst of all that a very important day for us to recognize is Veterans Day.
Beware of Scam!
A couple weeks ago, I shared about the National Do No Call Registry. Since then, a few residents and neighbors have reported being contacted by scammers via telephone. Remember, scammers will say anything and their goal is to get you to say “yes.”
Technically it’s time to go digital!
Submitted by Sarah Duggan
It was announced a while ago that Cox Communications would be going digital for all television services. For those of us who don’t have a digital box for our cable already (this is something you would have had to sign up and pay extra for directly through Cox), then we’ll need a new “mini box” to continue receiving our television channels.
How many of us can think of multiple times that we have been called by a telemarketer – and the funny thing is, they always call at the most inconvenient times such as in the middle of dinner or when you are walking out the door. Some of us might argue that anytime a telemarketer is calling, whether your have the time to deal with it or not, is inconvenient. A possible solution to this problem is the National Do Not Call Registry.
Outside is the best side!
In April 2015, the Duggans moved into our first house. The family’s first mission? Grow grass. Our new backyard was an overwhelming mountain of mud. I grew up in the country and there, growing grass wasn’t a priority. If we had it – great! If we didn’t – less to mow. Edward grew up in the city without a yard. Fast forward to 2015 and two newbie homeowners are standing in the lawn and garden section at Home Depot, heads tilted in confusion.
