The Meadowlark Hills residents elected Don Rasmussen to serve a three-year term with the Board of Trustees, with a nominal acceptance in June by the board. He will officially be recognized as a new board member at the annual Board of Trustees banquet in June.
Don received his chemical engineering degree from Kansas State University. He then worked for Union Carbide Corporation in Texas for 35 years, where he managed up to 1,000 employees and a $1 billion construction budget. Don served as the board chairman for the Construction Industry Institute for nine years and as a charter member for the National Academy of Construction for four years.
Don and his wife, Bea, moved to Meadowlark Hills in the summer of 2008 from Texas to be closer to family and K-State athletics. They are both active volunteers on the Meadowlark campus, where Don is a member of the Meadowlark Parkinson Program and helps coordinate the annual Speedy PD 5K/10K race to help support the Meadowlark Parkinson Fund. He also organizes an annual billiards tournament at Meadowlark for residents and staff. Bea is the chair of the Meadowlark Hills Peine-Ansdell Library.
“I would like to thank the Meadowlark residents for the trust they showed in me by selecting me to the Board of Trustees,” Rasmussen said. “I have gained a degree of useful experience by previously serving on two national boards for non-profit organizations.”
Don will be joining two other residents, Marla Bugbee and Harriette Janke, on the board.
“It is an opportunity (being on the board) few non-profit retirement communities afford to their residents,” Rasmussen said. |
