Homemaker

Meadowlark Hills is currently seeking Homemakers to work in our Health Care households. Part-time positions are available. Must be able to work at least every other weekend. Benefits available to full-time and part-time employees.

POSITION SUMMARY

A Homemaker is responsible for ensuring the household kitchen has the look, feel, and aroma of a resident’s home on a daily basis. Each Homemaker prepares food within an established production system according to standardized recipes, preparation, service methods, and food handling techniques to ensure quality, safety, and sanitary precautions are followed. The Homemaker is also responsible for performing housekeeping duties in an efficient, cost-effective manner to safely meet residents’ needs in compliance with federal, state, and local requirements. The Homemaker works with the team and residents to create interest based events in the household and ensures an adequate stock level of supplies and equipment is maintained in the household at all times to meet the needs of the residents. The Homemaker maintains a professional work relationship with residents and must be knowledgeable of the residents’ responsibilities and rights including the right to determine their own preferences.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Ensure the quality of meals is prepared in accordance with residents’ choices and preferences in a timely manner.
  • Ensure residents’ dining preferences and dietary needs are being met on a daily basis.
  • Ensure proper temperatures are maintained and recorded for all dishwashers and refrigerators.
  • Interact with residents daily and work with team members to ensure that the safety of all residents, as well as the residents’ needs and desires are met.
  • Safely performs all housekeeping procedures in accordance with policies and regulations, including but not limited to: clean, sweep, mop, buff, vacuum, dust, disinfect, wash laundry, empty trash, strip and make beds, wash windows, clean restrooms, clean carpet, etc., as needed to ensure the kitchen, dining room, and household areas are properly sanitized.
  • Uses and maintains housekeeping supplies and equipment safely and efficiently. Reports equipment malfunctions and any observed areas in poor repair to team leaders.
  • Uses confidentiality and proper chain of command when passing along information or concerns of residents.
  • Conveys necessary information or changes regarding residents to the proper leaders.
  • Personally responsible and held accountable for following Meadowlark Hills’ mission and values while maintaining and living out our philosophy of person centered care - person first.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Train other Homemakers, according to these essential job functions.
  • Supports team in meeting all job requirements, actively participates in being a learning and teaching organization. Willingness to continue to learn and seek improvement.
  • Attends in-service training programs.
  • Responsible for staying abreast of current laws, regulations, policies, procedures and best practices and adapting to company and industry changes.
  • Responsible for performing other duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Experience: Previous cooking, cleaning, and food safety experience preferred. A Homemaker is expected to have acquired the necessary knowledge and skills to perform the job satisfactorily in accordance with current standards, guidelines, and regulations of Meadowlark Hills.

Education:  High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred.

Personal Skills: A Homemaker must be dependable and professional with the ability to multi-task and make safe decisions regarding housekeeping and meal preparation. A Homemaker must have initiative, work independently and as a team member, and demonstrate good interpersonal, problem solving, and communication skills. A Homemaker must be knowledgeable about personal hygiene, kitchen sanitation, and safety precautions.  Must be accurate, attentive to detail, patient, and adaptable. Flexibility is needed in order to assist and serve in other positions when necessary and qualified. Strong focus on Person-centered care.

Supervision:  This position has no direct supervision of other Meadowlark Hills team members.

Financial Accountability: Responsible for making optimal use of all resources including time, while respecting residents’ and Meadowlark Hills’ property.

Personal Relations: Honors all resident and family preferences through support, friendship, kindness, sincerity, communication and relationship building. Homemakers work closely with all members of the household team, team leaders, residents, families, and guests.

Working Environment: As a Homemaker, one may be in close contact with individuals who have infectious diseases. Being in close contact with toxic, harmful, or potentially hazardous compounds, solutions, and medications is also a possibility. Homemakers often are exposed to loud noises, dust, air contaminants, and some unhygienic conditions and cleaning supplies. A Homemaker will perform duties such as emptying trash, changing soiled bed linens, doing laundry, and scrubbing and sanitizing bathrooms, floors, windows, tables, dishes, etc. A Homemaker may be exposed to extreme heat (from a hot oven, stove, etc) and loud noises (from vacuum, floor buffer, carpet cleaner, etc). A Homemaker must observe rigid, standardized guidelines to guard against disease and other dangers, wearing protective equipment when needed. A Homemaker must also work closely with residents, guests, and family and is subject to uncomfortable and emotional situations. Homemaker’s primarily work in a climate control setting.

Physical Demands: Homemakers often face heavy workloads and physical activity is required to perform the daily duties of a Homemaker. Because Homemakers spend long periods of time cleaning, preparing food, and assisting residents, the ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, reach, stretch, and lift a minimum of 50lbs is required. Must use universal precautions in all situations. Must be able to operate various appliances (dishwashers, stoves, microwaves, etc) and office equipment (phones, computers, printers, copiers, fax machines, etc). These operations must be performed with normal visual range, acuity, color determination, and the ability to distinguish letters and numbers. Good oral communication skills, the ability to speak clearly, and the ability to listen attentively with appropriate hearing acuity is required.

Work Hours: Residents and guests require 24-hour a day care; so the ability to work nights, weekends and holidays may be required. Primary work hours are dependent upon the shift(s) needed for full-time and part-time positions. Prefer no more than 40 hours per week. Homemakers are on an on-call rotation and subject to emergency call outs on short notice. Hours may vary depending upon residents’ needs. Adjustments to the schedule are made to accommodate these demands when necessary.
