Founded in 1980 when a group of local citizens decided they wanted a better living option for older adults, Meadowlark is recognized worldwide for its new approach to retirement living. Here, residents live life according to their own schedules, passions and pastimes, and are given the respect and privacy that everyone wants and deserves.
As a continuing care retirement community, Meadowlark offers the full continuum of care: independent living, assisted living and round-the-clock skilled nursing . We even provide specialized care, including post-acute recovery, assisted living with memory support, and in-home health services. So you can choose the level of service that’s right for you today, while knowing that more advanced care is available if you ever need it.
No matter what residence you choose, at Meadowlark you’ll have access to an exciting campus full of options — from Kansas Room Pub & Lounge, to our very own movie theater, Grosh Cinema. And you’ll be at home within the larger community of Manhattan, a great college town with countless arts, culture and entertainment opportunities.
Welcome home to Meadowlark.
As much as the city of Manhattan had grown since its founding, a group of citizens noticed in 1974 that the opposite seemed to be happening. The city’s retired population was growing smaller and smaller, due to a lack of living options. In an effort to help keep Manhattan’s community thriving and to give older adults more choice in the matter of where they live during retirement, these citizens partnered with six local churches to create Meadowlark Hills. Built on the concepts of continuum care, respect and compassion, Meadowlark Hills opened in 1980.

Meadowlark is at the forefront of an internationally recognized effort to change the culture of retirement communities. This crusade is based on the belief that all of us are entitled to choose how we live our lives — when we wake up in the morning, what we eat at each meal, and how we spend our days.
